Well folks, it is that time of year again. The time my children love - gearing up and spending time playing outside in the snow. Forts, snowball fights, snowmen and of course - the street famous toboggan run in our front yard fill our days with lots of outdoor playtime - which means lots of snow and lots of cold.
Living in the nations Capital - our temperatures and snow fall can range from one extreme to the other; something that has been guaranteed for me the last few years however, is cold feet. I have gone through 2 pairs of boots in the last 3 years because my feet just did not stay warm.
It didn't matter what I did, even with a temperature rating of -30, they were still cold. This year, I knew something had to change. With the toboggan run taking up more and more of our days last year, I knew it was sure to be the same and I didn't want to have to drag the kids inside because I am cold (they never are - they are sweating like crazy when we take off all their gear).
After finding Baffin online, I was intrigued whether or not their boots could actually stand up to our freezing cold temperatures. I was in contact with them and they agreed to send me the Baffin Chloe Womens boot to test out. Of course, I had to try them on the minute they arrived - I was a little worried about sizing - I am generally a 7.5 but find that when I buy an 8 boot, they are too big (but a 7 is always too small). I was in luck however, the 8 fit me perfectly. There is a small pocket in front of my toes for air, but my feet do NOT flop around like in past boots. I was actually amazed at how comfortable they were.

I find that my laces always come untied, which is very inconvenient when it is cold out and I am bundled up with mitts or gloves. With the fastener system, I am able to tighten them when I put them on, and they stay that way.
RATING -40°C/-40°FThe next day I had the chance for my first test - the bus stop. It was our coldest day so far this season, with temperatures close to -30. Mr.J and I got ready in the morning - snowsuit, hats, mitts/gloves, and boots and headed up the street to the bus stop. I was sure my feet would be cold by the time we got to the stop, but they weren't. As we stood waiting (12 minutes - the bus was late) I kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the cold feet to start - but it didn't happen.

Later that day, I bundled up again to meet him at the bus stop after school, and again, I was lucky to have warm feet.
On the weekend, I had a chance to see how they held up with my next test - outdoor play. We spent time outside shoveling snow, working on the toboggan run and playing together over the weekend, and all through I was amazed at how warm my feet stayed.

When he was finished, he went off to play his new DS and I headed back outside with hubby and Mr. K while they finished working on the toboggan run. I was super thrilled that my Baffin boots stood up to both of my tests! Now, my next search is for a pair of mitts/gloves that will do the same for my hands!

These boots sound amazing. I live on Canada's east coast and the weather is often extreme. These boots would be perfect for my morning walks, the pair I have now do very little to keep my feet warm and dry!
ReplyDeletethey are great! They also have other lines for hiking and what not - definitely worth having a look!
DeleteI am a HUGE Baffin Boots fan! I got my first pair last year and I haven't had cold feet since. I spent 2 hours tobogganing in minus 30 degree weather last winter and my feet stayed toasty warm the whole time. I love mine so much I ended up convincing a family member to get a pair also...and they love theirs just as much. Enjoy your Baffins, Ashley!
ReplyDelete:) I really was amazed at how warm they kept them. Only once have I had cold feet since - and it was because I was trying to walk through snow that was HIGHER than the boots, which of course resulted in snow sneaking inside. Other than that (which of course is NOT normal wear) they have been AMAZING! So glad to hear that you love yours also...it is so true though - I have been telling EVERYONE about how warm and comfy they are!
DeleteOh these are nice! I am in need of a great pair of boots. I find them hard to find though this time of year :) I will watch for these
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Hope you find a pair you like
DeleteThese look awesome. I'm on the market for some new winter boots this year. I'm going to check them out. :)
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteI have just been tobogganing in my Taxi boots with heels. I almost wiped out and died on the ice because they are totally inappropriate and also I had trouble walking and they leaked. Sucky! I need some new boots. I will look these up now actually.
ReplyDeletethose definitely don't sound appropriate for playing in!
DeleteLove the look of these boots. I have "winter boots" that don't actually keep my feet warm. They are no good for being out playing with my boys in the snow.
ReplyDeletesuch a pain - especially when they claim to be good to -30 or colder
DeleteI love the sounds of these - they are still stylish (and yes, vanity still wins out sometimes) BUT have that warmth to them.. very much what I need with our WAAAAAY below seasonal temps in MB this year! -42C with the windchill tonight!
ReplyDeleteI get what you mean - when I am out playing with the kids I don't care so much about style; however, going to do errands, shopping etc I need something that offers both warmth and style!
DeleteI may need to get a pair of these. I'm in the market for a new pair of winter boots.
ReplyDeleteI hope you like them as much as I do
DeleteThese boots look and sound amazing! The weather here in Victoria doesn't get too cold, but sometimes we could use these!
ReplyDeleteAnne Taylor
they have other boots with not such a high cold rating!
Deletenever heard of these boots before but I will certainly see if I can pick them up locally... we have had more snow here then we have had in Newfoundland in years
ReplyDeletethese would be great!
DeleteThese look great. I need a good pair for my son! Will have to check these out!
ReplyDelete:) I hope you find something from them you both like
DeleteThey sound like great warm boots, and I really like the look. I will have to get myself a pair. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome - hope you can find a pair you like
DeleteThose boots look really warm and they look good too!
ReplyDeleteI'm in northwestern CT and can agree how cold it is this winter (below zero +wind chill). I haven't yet found the boots I need to battle the elements but the Baffin is probably my best bet.
ReplyDeleteFor years Baffin was located in Stoney Creek (where I grew up) and employeed many friends, relatives and neighbours, they were always a good brand back then and I am sure they are now
ReplyDeleteI have never tried this brand but i will look for them in the Fall, thanks for the great review
