Keeping My Feet Warm With Baffin Boots

Well folks, it is that time of year again. The time my children love - gearing up and spending time playing outside in the snow. Forts, snowball fights, snowmen and of course - the street famous toboggan run in our front yard fill our days with lots of outdoor playtime - which means lots of snow and lots of cold.

Living in the nations Capital - our temperatures and snow fall can range from one extreme to the other; something that has been guaranteed for me the last few years however, is cold feet.  I have gone through 2 pairs of boots in the last 3 years because my feet just did not stay warm.

It didn't matter what I did, even with a temperature rating of -30, they were still cold. This year, I knew something had to change.  With the toboggan run taking up more and more of our days last year, I knew it was sure to be the same and I didn't want to have to drag the kids inside because I am cold (they never are - they are sweating like crazy when we take off all their gear).

After finding Baffin online, I was intrigued whether or not their boots could actually stand up to our freezing cold temperatures.  I was in contact with them and they agreed to send me the Baffin Chloe Womens boot to test out. Of course, I had to try them on the minute they arrived - I was a little worried about sizing - I am generally a 7.5 but find that when I buy an 8 boot, they are too big (but a 7 is always too small). I was in luck however, the 8 fit me perfectly. There is a small pocket in front of my toes for air, but my feet do NOT flop around like in past boots.  I was actually amazed at how comfortable they were.

One of the first things I noticed about the boots is that they use a fastener system instead of laces; this was great

I find that my laces always come untied, which is very inconvenient when it is cold out and I am bundled up with mitts or gloves.  With the fastener system, I am able to tighten them when I put them on, and they stay that way.

The next day I had the chance for my first test - the bus stop.  It was our coldest day so far this season, with temperatures close to -30.  Mr.J and I got ready in the morning - snowsuit, hats, mitts/gloves, and boots and headed up the street to the bus stop.  I was sure my feet would be cold by the time we got to the stop, but they weren't.  As we stood waiting (12 minutes - the bus was late) I kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the cold feet to start - but it didn't happen.
the underneath - they even leave flower marks in the snow!
All of the boots I have owned, I have never seen a liner like the ones Baffin uses. They are layered and leave your feet so, so warm.

Later that day, I bundled up again to meet him at the bus stop after school, and again, I was lucky to have warm feet.

On the weekend, I had a chance to see how they held up with my next test - outdoor play. We spent time outside shoveling snow, working on the toboggan run and playing together over the weekend, and all through I was amazed at how warm my feet stayed.
cleaning up the laneway and getting the base set for the toboggan run
I managed to outlast Mr. J (although, his brother dumped snow down his back so it's understandable that he was cold) I took him inside to dry off and warm up with a hot chocolate.

When he was finished, he went off to play his new DS and I headed back outside with hubby and Mr. K while they finished working on the toboggan run. I was super thrilled that my Baffin boots stood up to both of my tests!  Now, my next search is for a pair of mitts/gloves that will do the same for my hands!

  1. These boots sound amazing. I live on Canada's east coast and the weather is often extreme. These boots would be perfect for my morning walks, the pair I have now do very little to keep my feet warm and dry!

  2. I am a HUGE Baffin Boots fan! I got my first pair last year and I haven't had cold feet since. I spent 2 hours tobogganing in minus 30 degree weather last winter and my feet stayed toasty warm the whole time. I love mine so much I ended up convincing a family member to get a pair also...and they love theirs just as much. Enjoy your Baffins, Ashley!

    1. :) I really was amazed at how warm they kept them. Only once have I had cold feet since - and it was because I was trying to walk through snow that was HIGHER than the boots, which of course resulted in snow sneaking inside. Other than that (which of course is NOT normal wear) they have been AMAZING! So glad to hear that you love yours also...it is so true though - I have been telling EVERYONE about how warm and comfy they are!

  5. I have just been tobogganing in my Taxi boots with heels. I almost wiped out and died on the ice because they are totally inappropriate and also I had trouble walking and they leaked. Sucky! I need some new boots. I will look these up now actually.

  6. Love the look of these boots. I have "winter boots" that don't actually keep my feet warm. They are no good for being out playing with my boys in the snow.

  7. I love the sounds of these - they are still stylish (and yes, vanity still wins out sometimes) BUT have that warmth to them.. very much what I need with our WAAAAAY below seasonal temps in MB this year! -42C with the windchill tonight!

    1. I get what you mean - when I am out playing with the kids I don't care so much about style; however, going to do errands, shopping etc I need something that offers both warmth and style!

  14. I'm in northwestern CT and can agree how cold it is this winter (below zero +wind chill). I haven't yet found the boots I need to battle the elements but the Baffin is probably my best bet.
