DIY Microwave Popcorn
I have always been a big popcorn lover, and the convenience of microwave popcorn was too good to pass up for many years. Recently, I have been hearing lots of negative things about it, and wanted a healthier option for myself and my family.
I was told about a DIY microwave popcorn version, and thought I would share it with you in case you hadn't heard of it before (although a quick google search pulls up LOTS of info on it)
What you need:
1/4 cup popcorn kernels (even slightly less, you want to make sure there is enough room in the bag)
1 brown paper lunch bag
What you do:
- place kernels in the bag
- loosely fold down the top (just enough to close the bag)
- place the bag in the microwave, and set it for 3 minutes on high. Listen until you hear 3 seconds or so between pops, and then it is ready
- remove bag from microwave (careful, my bag ripped)
Season how you wish (I still love butter and a little bit of salt on my popcorn) - you can either season it in the bag and eat as is, or pour it into a bowl and re-use the bag next time (unless it rips like mine did).
Have you made popcorn this way before? and what is your favourite way to season popcorn?

You can also do this in a silicone microwave dish!
ReplyDeletegood to know!
DeleteI've read about this method before, never tried it.....you've inspired me to give it a go! Now if I just remember to buy the kernels while grocery shopping today.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it!
Deletewe do! we do this often, and the kiddos love it as well :)
DeleteHmm, will have to give this a try
ReplyDeletelet me know how you like it!
DeleteI haven't done this before but we do eat a lot of microwave popcorn. Your DIY method sounds cheaper and without additives so I am going to try it.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, it's this easy? I feel so silly for never experimenting before!
