Magical Summer Days

Last summer our neighbours put their house up for sale.  I was slightly devastated when it happened (we were quite close to them and my kids felt like they had an extra pair of grand parents) and often worried that we wouldn't get along with the new owners.

We met them quickly in the winter, but once the snow started to melt and we started spending more time outside, we realized how well we all get along.  We now spend most of our weekends outside with the kids playing and the adults chatting and doing yard work.

Our houses seem to be the "hub" on the street and other neighbours/kids often end up over to join us. Saturday was a beautiful day.  The kids kept asking to have a water fight, and we finally agreed.  M (neighbour) put the hose on and they started running under it, then Mr. J and Mr. K started collecting their water guns (we have way more than we need, but they are all different sizes and have different specs).  We ended up with 6 kids outside, and they had a water fight for over an hour.  No electronics, no fighting, no "we are bored". Just plain fun.

It was so spontaneous and FUN.  I think my favourite part of the entire weekend was watching them run around and listening to the squeals and laughter.  Hearing kids being kids.  While it may not truly be "summer" yet, I can't wait to see how much fun they all have together over summer vacation and to be a part of all the wonderful memories they are making.

  1. There is nothing like the sound of kids playing, laughing and having fun in the summer! It's raining today unfortunately but we can't wait until school is out so we can start really enjoying the sunnier days to come! It's so great you have neighbours you can hang out with and your kids all get along! Great post! Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your world!

  2. My neighbours (who I love) will be moving in one month. I am devastated too! I just don't think things will feel the same here once they are gone. I'm hoping the new neighbours are great but I will always miss my friends next door.

    1. I hope that you end up with amazing ones like we did. We were definitely sad to see our old neighbours go - and I didn't think we could be lucky enough to win the neighbour jackpot twice!

  3. It's always great when your kids have friends close by but even greater when the parents click as well.

  5. I don't know my neighbors, I don't think I have said more than a "hi" to them.

I do love no tech activities though! Sounds like a water gun fight was perfect!

    1. Oh no - that would make me sad if I didn't know them. I know the names of all the neighbours within the 12 houses around us and know them well enough to have a quick conversation

  9. I love this! Our neighbourhood is more spaced out so we don’t have spontaneous occasions like this. I miss it! Thanks for joining the #GoodFriendsFriday linky party - our new post is now live!
