Walt Disney World Fastpass Worthy Rides

The idea behind the Fastpass is to pre-book a time range to arrive and ride a particular attraction. You have a 1-hour time frame to show up in, and the cast member at the gate will scan your band to see that you have arrived at the correct time.  The Fastpass system is completely free to use, and is pretty simple once you get used to it.

There are 2 gates when you approach the ride or attraction. Standby and Fastpass. If you have a reserved Fastpass, you go to that line. *MOST times, you can walk on to the ride, or have a very minimal wait.  Standby is a regular line.  There will be a time above the sign letting you know the approximate wait time.

Below you will find my picks for the best rides to use your Fastpasses on
Magic Kingdom:
  • Peter Pan
  • 7 Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Space Mountain
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Pirates of The Carribean
  • Dumbo (there is a play area while you wait, so you don't NEED a fastpass, but if you don't want to spend time playing (it was quite busy while we were there, and hard to keep track of your kids) then it can be worth the FP
EPCOT:
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Soarin
  • Mission:Space
Animal Kingdom:
  • Kilmanjaro Safari
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Expedition Everest
  • Dinosaur
  • the shows (tough to be a bug, festival of the lion king)
Disney's Hollywood Studios
  • Toy Story Midway Mania
  • Star Tours
  • Tower of Terror
  • Stage shows (Indiana Jones, Frozen Sing-a-long)
  • Great Movie Ride
  • Fantasmic
Obviously not all these rides are appropriate for all age groups, but they are the ones that seem to have the biggest lines, and therefore Fastpasses would come in very handy.

My recommendation is normally to use your Fastpasses in the afternoon.  Arrive at the park at opening, and head to your MUST DO ride.  The wait times are much shorter in the morning and you may be able to ride them more than once if you start early - without a huge wait time.

Another tip is to skip the parade (especially if you have seen it) and you may have shorter wait times since most of the crowds end up watching the parades.

*I say most of the time you have a minimal wait, however we did notice while walking through Animal Kingdom that the standby line for Expedition Everest had a 10 minute wait, and the Fastpass line was 60 minutes

What is your must do Fastpass ride? My absolute favourite is Peter Pan - and it always has major wait times.

  3. Things sure have changed at Disney since I was there back in 1992! I have heard of FastPass & it's really one of the best ideas for families vacationing there. Back years ago we missed a lot of rides because of waiting in line for 2-3 hours for each of them.

  13. Sounds like the fast pass is the way to go especially if your with the family makes the wait times so much less and enjoyable.

  15. The newest attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom, the Flight of Passage ride is supposed to be spectacular and I would definitely say you need a FastPass for it. On the opening day it had wait times for four+ hours! Can you imagine??!!
